My sister and I were talking the other day, and I mentioned wardrobe for this up coming shoot we have in the works where we have to dress"rockabilly", not really my steeze, so we were brainstorming and she brought up a good point. She says " you mean the cheap look" and you know... she is right. If this look isn't done correctly, wow... it looks super cheap. The clothes look like if you wash em' once they fade. Its all made up of hard cotton and cheap embroidery. Even on the high end side... it looks like shit. I don't know why these girls just don't go vintage. The remade clothing just isn't working in my opinion. Obviously there is the once in a while occasion where there is some mall brand comes off with something note worthy, but lets be honest, that is as far and in between as a Chanel suit in the goodwill.
I have walked my fair share of car shows, (love me some old trucks) I think i have seen enough of these girls to half way know what I'm yakin' about. I have even been known to dabble in the style a tad. I will do a pin up do here and there and throw on some crinoline if the occasion calls for it, but mark my words mine will be authentic. Now I know I'm going to get a verbal lashing from my Elvis loving ladies..... because they are so dedicated to the look, but please understand I'm not bashing, I think the look is beautiful, actually one of the best and most classic that there is, I just think most of it can be done better. There is so much authentic vintage out there begging to be worn, I just don't know why so many people turn to the mall racks. Plus it makes both dollars and sense to buy vintage. One it's buying green, two, they honestly just don't make the clothes the way they used to (there is no comparison on the quality of a metal zipper) the craftsmanship is undeniable.
All this said, here are a few of my favorite 1950's-60's looks done right and of course a pick or two from etsy.

Coachella California dreamin'
Gearing up for coachella... this has my anxiety on full throttle. Not to mention leaving my baby boy for the first time which has already made me cry twice, there is so much to do. Man, get in shape, catch up on unknown bands, buy food..... and plan WHAT TO WEAR!!! I'm thinking long maxi dresses are the way to go. I mean I would love to stuff my fat butt into a pair of little daisy dukes and a tee shirt and call it a day, but the heat down there doesn't do great things for a "normal gals" thighs..... can I get an "amen"? At least with a maxi you can wear some shorts under to keep the sweat factor down. There is soooooo much good fashion there it is hard for even me to keep up. It has me stressed for the 3 months prior. This year i will have the trusty Nikon to document this for you all. So anyway.. enough rambling..... and here are a few looks from years past that i admire..... Sweet California dreamin'! Well not for me , I'm a California native (lucky me, i know). Maybe we will see you there, and hope we walk up to you and ask for your photo!

Party like it's 1999
OK. so trend alert. The 90's are back. Not to say I'm super pumped about this though. I mean yes, there were some things in the 90's that were note worthy. The form fitting floral jumpers and denim vests were rad. The grunge era took the cake. Even with her "pre" manipulated nose, Courtney Love had a wardrobe worth drooling over. Drew Barrymore peaked in the 90's. (please don't lash out! I'm just being honest here). BUT... and YES, I'm starting a sentence with BUT, so maximize the severity of this..... MOM jeans are not cool ladies, pegged pants, NOT COOL. HUGE over sized glasses that touch your cheeks and keep you back from smiling correctly... what?? We left these things in the past for a reason. The shoulder pad thing, I get it... It does even out a pear shaped body, but 30 lbs of shoulder pad just makes you look stupid.
So here are a few blasts from the past that looked amazing, and a few looks for less, via etsy. Like it or leave it.

First order of business.....Miss Zooey, God, love her! Right? I mean am I crazy to have such a woman crush on her that I just sorta want to lick her face? I mean she probably tastes like honey or something. Ok maybe that is taking it a bit far, but she is my favorite as far as fashionistas go... and that is by far a long list to top. So kudos to her right. Everything about her is just 100% adorable. Her raspy voice, her long stunning hair, the clothes (duh) and those baby blues....She always seems to hit the nail on the head when it comes to her attire, then again she IS one of those rare sickening chicks that actually could make a potato sack somehow look incredibly adorable and fashionable. So here are a few of my favorite photos of her... and some of her best looks..... and then a few shopping ideas if you want to get HER look for less....
oh... and p.s. she doesn't look anything like katy perry and is far more talented..... google darlings.... you should get that strait!
